STYLE - Style markup

This element is also available in our updated HTML 4 reference. Some characteristics may have changed.

Appearance: <STYLE> </STYLE>
Attributes: TYPE=string
Contents: Plain text, but should be valid style markup.
May occur in: HEAD.

The STYLE tag is included only to ensure upward compatibility. Newer versions of HTML will include support for style sheets, and this tag can be used to provide "in-line" style information. The tag should contain only valid style statements, in the language indicated in the TYPE attribute.

Note that current browsers are only required to hide the contents of the STYLE tag, it does not have to use the information contained therein.
